AppMaker 2 is divided among five subfolders so that you can install only the parts you want.
Drag the AppMaker folder to any convenient place on your hard drive.
In the Libraries folder are subfolders for Metrowerks and for Symantec:
For Metrowerks, drag the AppMaker subfolder to the "MacOS Support" folder inside your Metrowerks folder. Drag the AppMaker.CTYP file to the "Custom Types" folder inside your Metrowerks PowerPlant folder. For Symantec, drag the AMClassLibC subfolder to your "Sym C++ for Power Mac" folder.
If you want to compile and link any of the Examples, then drag Examples to your hard drive. You can save space by copying only the subfolder for the language you want to use.
You can leave Documentation on the CD. If you want to improve the speed of browsing the documentation then you can copy it to your hard drive.
You can leave the Customizing folder on the CD. It is used only to customize AppMaker's resource generator or source code generator. If you plan to customize AppMaker, copy the Templates subfolder to your hard drive, then move AMCompiler (68K or PPC) to your AppMaker folder.
For Mac OS 8, AppMaker generates code that uses Apple's new Appearance controls. These controls make your application look better and make the code simpler. They work in both Mac OS 8 and System 7.x thanks to a new Appearance extension from Apple.
Apple has supplied a new SDK for using Appearance. As of this writing the latest version is Appearance 1.0.3. It is now part of Apple's Universal Headers 3.2.
The Appearance 1.0.2 SDK is part of the Universal Headers v3.1 which ship with CW Pro 4 and 3. It is ready-to-use except for 68K, which is discussed below.
CW Pro 2 provided Apple's Universal Headers 3.0.1, which included Appearance 1.0, a now obsolete version. CW Pro 1 provided Universal Headers 2.1, which did not include Appearance at all. You can download the latest Appearance SDK or Universal Interfaces 3.1 from http://developer.apple.com/sdk/. We used the 3.0.1 headers that came with Pro 2 and we installed Appearance 1.0.2 in the Metrowerks' MacOS Support folder:
If you will be generating Mac OS 8 code with AppMaker we recommend that you install the Appearance SDK in this location. If you do not have the SDK or you install it elsewhere then CodeWarrior will report an Access Path warning and won't be able to compile or link.
Apple declares several Appearance helper functions in Controls.h. Apple supplies a PPC library and a CFM68K library - but not a standard 68K library - to implement these helper functions. In the Appearance SDK, Apple provides source code and a CW project for making an AppearanceHelpers68K library. We recommend that you download the Appearance SDK, build the AppearanceHelpers68K library and install it next to the PPC AppearanceLib.
If this is a new purchase please fill out and return the Registration Card so that we can know to send you additional CDs for your subscription. The card is in electronic form and you can return it via e-mail, fax, or snail mail.
AppMaker now has a Registration dialog. The first time you launch AppMaker, it will request registration info. For valid users, AppMaker will be fully functional. Without a valid registration number, AppMaker will behave as a Demo version - Save is disabled.
